Getting Down to Business with Philip Hodgetts

BOSFCPUG is proud to join forces with one really big brain (for rent): Philip Hodgetts!

Philip Hodgetts HeadshotPhilip was an early pioneer and evangelist of Final Cut Pro... and then podcasting and video-casting.

Philip is a forward-thinking creative and a master of promotion. He's always on the lookout for new trends and opportunities. One trend he see, as do we all, is the commiditization of production and post production tools and skills.

Addressing this trend, Philip recently self-published his own book The New Now. Get interactive with Philip as he shares all the insights, tips, and techniques he has put into practice that became the foundation for this book.

Philip and the BOSFCPUG have created this workshop to help you navigate the visual fog created in the "video everywhere by anyone" nature of the internet.

The New NowConnect with your audience.
Opportunities exist.
Philip will share the know-how!

When signing up, take the time in our registration process to let Philip know what you most need to understand so he can be sure to address specific concerns.

**INCLUDED: All workshop participants will receive refreshments, a complimentary copy of Philip's latest book The New Now - How To Grow Your Production Or Post Production Business In a Changed and Changing World and a pdf copy of the presentation slides and notes.

How to Grow and Monetize an Audience For Your Independent Production

with Philip Hodgetts

Since the advent of low cost production equipment almost any project can find a suitable budget. However distribution has not been democratized to the same degree. Learn how others have built substantial and profitable audiences for their independent film and video projects and successfully monetized the audience.

Learn the common themes and how you can apply them to any independent production.

Topics to be discussed: We'll examine the ten ways to profit from distributing free content and how others have drawn income from ancilliary products, subscriptions, advertising and direct sales.

In the first part of the seminar you'll learn from the experience of others:

  • When to start building an audience
  • How to identify and reach your "core audience"
  • How to 'Connect with Fans"
  • How to create and use your evangelists
  • The role of the production blog and how to build out your production website
  • How to get your website found in search engines
  • How to use modern PR techniques

Having built an audience it's time to monetize by:

  • Learning how CwF+RtB=profits
  • Monetizing free content (and even piracy)
  • Examining the six most common monetizing strategies and how they apply to independent projects
  • Learn which strategies have been the most effective for other projects.

All the information is liberally backed with case studies.

**INCLUDED: All workshop participants will receive refreshments, a complimentary copy of Philip's latest book The New Now - How To Grow Your Production Or Post Production Business In a Changed and Changing World and a pdf copy of the presentation slides and notes.

San Diego-based Producer/Director John Coleman has this to say about the workshop:

"The Day was capped off by a keynote address from Media Guru Phillip Hodgetts. He is a true Renaissance Man of the media. If you have ever been to one of his seminars, read one of his books, or his blog or heard him speak, you know what I mean. On this occasion his topic was "Growing An Audience for your Indy Production." Phillip pointed out that a major paradigm shift has taken place. Where once distribution (as well as advertising, promotion and building an audience for that distribution) was the job of a distributor or a network, it now falls to the filmmaker or content creator. Hodgetts presented case histories of creative and successful self-distribution, talked about piracy, blogging, using the internet and tribal marketing, among others."
